"Dancing for the Arts"
Saturday November 21st 2009
at Bulle Rock
...an event to raise money to build a Center for
the Arts in Harford County
John was invited by
Dancing with Friends Studio in Harford
County to come and partner and train a local celebrity, Joan Henderson Hodous.
Long time friend and colleague
Debbie Howley contacted John and invited
him to partake in this wonderful event! Debbie, her partner
Tom Rzepnicki, and a few other teachers
were paired up to teach and then showcase a 2 minute routine with their local
celebrities that best displayed their newly found dance talents. These
celebrities had never danced before with formal training!
Joan and John hit
it off immediately. We had so much passion and creativity and drive.
Joan is a Painter, Poet, and Author....and I can now say, a good friend as well!
She and John trained for about 2 months prior to this event. Joan held a
private affair at her home to raise additional money for the event, she danced
at our Fall Showcase, and she worked diligently and tirelessly through her
arthritis, knee replacement, and more! She is a winner on every account in
my heart! Thank you Joan for this opportunity!
Tickets were sold
to the event, people voted on their favorite dancer, and pledges were collected
on line and by phone. Jamie Costello from ABC2 News was our Emcee for the
evening and the list of "Star Dancers" were: Jesse Bane, Betsy Champion,
Rick Dempsey, Alan Doran, Patti Dresher,
Joan Henderson
Hodous, Wini Roche, Lyle Sheldon, and Jay Young.
We all raised a total of $99,630!
WOW! Patti Dresher was the winner of the Dancing for the Arts Judges
Choice Award and she also raised the most funds for the event. Way to go
Patti!
